Info sharing: Articles of interest

I thought that these posts would be an easy way to document links that I wanted to hang onto for future reference – and you might find something you’re interested in, as well!

  • Words From a Father to His Daughter (From the Makeup Aisle) – What powerful messages for us to remember to share with Delaney as she’s growing. “When you have a daughter you start to realize she’s just as strong as everyone else in the house—a force to be reckoned with, a soul on fire with the same life and gifts and passions as any man. But sitting in this store aisle, you also begin to realize most people won’t see her that way. They’ll see her as a pretty face and a body to enjoy. And they’ll tell her she has to look a certain way to have any worth or influence.”
  • Mom’s the Word: Stay at home, work at home“Let’s be honest: no one wants to hear anyone complain about working from home… but even though it’s a lovely life, there is definitely an art to making it work. Throw a baby in the mix and it gets even more interesting (and of course, much better).” Delaney has been my working partner since Day One (remember the pic I posted way back when of what I look like as a working mom?), and our work/play schedule has continued to evolve as she grows. This article – as well as the article’s comments – had some great tips. I’m sure I’ll need to reference it again in a few months when we throw a second little one into the mix!
  • 7 Habits for Highly Effective Simplicity“Now, if you’re ready to simplify your life a bit and really need a jumpstart, there are 7 habits you can develop to bring some serious simplicity into your life.” “Simplify” was my theme for 2013, and we made great strides in simplifying our home, schedule, and lifestyle (we canceled cable, changed work situations, gave ourselves permission to decline invitations to things that would take us away from family time, etc.). Simplifying will be even more important for us in 2014 as we prepare to expand our family – and inevitably make life even crazier for a while.
